The Project for Posterity, initially launched to document the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of the Lower Cape Fear, will now begin to focus on different themes. We are now asking you to share with us your experience as a member of the Lower Cape Fear community. How was your life affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? Did you participate in the BLM protests downtown? What is your favorite experience in Wilmington?
The Historical Society is actively collecting photos, videos, written documents, and other materials highlighting the experiences of those living in the area; submissions are sought in digital format. We're collecting your Instagram photos and reels, Facebook posts, and your TikTok videos.
“Our mission as an historical society is to document and preserve the history of the Lower Cape Fear – even history in the making - and that is our motivation in launching this project,” explains Tom Crittenden, President & CEO of the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Inc.
The goal of the project is to document and preserve the collective experiences of our community. With your help, the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Inc. will build a digital collection that reflects the lives of our diverse communities. The materials may be used in a community exhibit to be planned later.
If you are interested in sharing digital content such as photographs, videos, and audio clips, please use our online submission form.
Digital content may be shared through our online platforms and social media accounts.
Suggested digital materials could include:
• Artifacts
• Artistic reflections
• Personal correspondence and journals
• Photographs
• Video and audio diaries, journal entries, and reflections
Submitted materials will be reviewed by Collections staff and may be added to our permanent collections. Items may be shared on social media. If you have questions about this collecting initiative, or our terms and conditions, please reach out to marketing@latimerhouse.org.
